A year ago I accompanied the fam (less Nate) to the humble capital of our fair state to cheer them on as they ran the Anthem Richmond Marathon. That is to say, as Momma Bear attempted her first full marathon, Dad powered through his second half-marathon, and Ryan blew them both away in his second half-marathon for which he’d neither trained nor registered. It was a fun experience, and we were especially proud of Mom as she finished in ~3:45– a Boston qualifying time! (See you there in April?)
This year Nate and I were both able to make it out to show our support (because it’s way too laughable that either of us would ever actually run the damn thing, right?), as were our dear friends Bill, Nancy, and Katy Burns (none of whom make an appearance in this post, regrettably! Esp considering that Katy is the ultimate running buddy and ended up putting in nearly a half-marathon herself as she accompanied my parents through vital stages of their respective runs).
This year, ol’ Pops decided to get in on the full marathon action himself, despite a fairly limited training regimen that included a long run of only 14 miles. (He only-sort-of-not-really-at-all joked he was shooting for a 5 hour finishing time. Spoiler alert: he beat this, and was even getting pretty jiggy with it [to “Gettin Jiggy With It”] as he passed his crew of cheerleaders at the 24.5 mile marker. My greatest regret of the day– nay, week!– is that I didn’t actually hit “record” when trying to film him doing so.)
This year, the weather was better, the last of our famous Virginia fall foliage was looking just as pretty as ever, I brought a decent camera (that ended up dying, of course, so yeah… iPhone photos make appearances as well), and I had just enough time before this pregame I’m hosting to put this post together, so here we are.
